The A380 Celebrates 10 Years at Heathrow

Everyone loves sharing their birthdays with friends – and the A380 is no different.

On March 18, 2008, Singapore Airlines flight SQ308 from Changi touched down at Heathrow. That very first A380 passenger flight to Heathrow ushered in a new era of travel at Europe’s busiest airport.

To celebrate, Airbus and Heathrow Airport are inviting passengers to share the A380’s 10th anniversary party.

Over 10 days from 18 to 28 March, some lucky A380 passengers arriving into Heathrow will be gifted A380 goodies, including tasty French macarons.

In addition, every day for the entire 10 days, one lucky passenger will receive a VIP pack to continue their journey to London in style. It will include the services of a complimentary airport Porter, and the choice of Business First Heathrow Express tickets to Central London or a personalized WeKnowLondon chauffeur service to their chosen address. They’ll also receive a WeKnowLondon voucher to the value of £250.

Heathrow was one of the first airports to welcome the A380. Ten years after that inaugural flight, an average of 50 A380 flights a day land on the UK’s most famous runways.

More than 200 million passengers have enjoyed flying the A380 since its inception, with Heathrow one of 53 airports sharing the A380 love. Major airlines now fly the airplane on more than 110 routes worldwide.

What’s more, passengers consistently rate the A380 as their favorite flight experience. According to one independent survey, 98% of A380 passengers would recommend the A380 to their friends and family, and 60% would make a special effort to fly on the airplane.1

And it’s easy to see why. The airplane offers more personal space and the widest seats in the sky across all classes. Every element of the A380 has been designed with passengers in mind. It’s also the smoothest and quietest airliner in the skies.

For passengers in Business and First Class, showers, beds, bars and lounges complete a luxurious experience.

“Ten years from the first flight, this pioneering aircraft has helped Heathrow to improve efficiency whilst supporting continued passenger demand for long-haul routes,” says Heathrow’s Director of Airline Business Development, Simon Eastburn. “This is one of the most popular aircraft for many passengers, so we look forward to celebrating this milestone with them.”
