Welcoming ANA as a New Member of the A380 Family
Airbus and All Nippon Airways (ANA) - Japan’s largest airline - are delighted to announce the airline’s new A380 route between Tokyo Narita and Honolulu. The iconic aircraft already flies to more than 120 destinations, with an A380 landing or taking off every two minutes on average worldwide. This new route will allow even more people to enjoy the A380 experience. ANA is the newest airline to join the A380 family after Qatar Airways and Etihad Airways in 2014 and Hi Fly in July 2018.
The distinctive livery designed by Chihiro Masuoka of Tokyo was selected from among 2,197 submissions to an open competition launched by ANA in which people all over the world competed to come up with a design for the new A380s.
Known as ‘Honu’ in the Hawaiian language, the green sea turtle is a symbol of prosperity and good luck, and the special-edition aircraft has been nicknamed 'Flying Honu'. The three new planes acquired by ANA will be painted in different colors – blue, representing the Hawaiian blue sky, green, inspired by the water of the Hawaiian ocean and orange to evoke the stunning Hawaiian sunset.
Innovations for Families
ANA is the first airline in Japan to introduce couch seats. 60 of the 383 seats in Economy Class will be able to be made into couches which people can lie down on by folding up the leg rests. Passengers will also receive mattresses to make the seat even more comfy - ideal for families traveling with small children! There will also be a multi-purpose room where parents can feed, change and tend to their children.
Arrive in Hawaii as soon as You Board the Plane
The interior of the cabin has been designed to evoke the spirit of Hawaii from the moment passengers enter, with the walls and multi-coloured lights arrange to pay homage to Hawaii’s blue skies, sunrises, sunsets, night skies and rainbows. There are also bars in every class of cabin.
Privacy in First Class and Couples’ Seats in Business Class
The eight seats in First Class will each have their own personal doors and come with 32-inch screens, extra reading lights and even a personal linen closet. Half of the 56 fully-flat Business Class seats will come in a side-by-side ‘paired’ formation – likely to be popular with the many honeymooners expected to choose this route.
A Brand-New Airport Lounge for A380 Passengers
ANA is creating a new airport lounge at Daniel K. Inouye Airport in Honolulu to welcome honeymooners and other passengers from the new A380s.
Located on the third floor of Terminal 2, the décor will reflect a fusion of both Japanese and Hawaiian culture, including a traditional Japanese coffered ceiling created with Hawaiian wood.
It will be the largest lounge in the airport, offering direct access for passengers on the upper deck, meaning they won’t have to leave the lounge until it’s time to board. There will also be an area for families, designed to look like a pool and filled with toys.
